Carbon Fibre Violin Shoulder Rest

The Challenge:
To design a new flagship product for the KUN Shoulder Rest Company using light weight carbon fiber for the main body; making it the lightest and best performing shoulder rest on the market.

Accomplishments:
• designed to be the lightest product of its kind, while still providing high bending and torsional resistance
• retention of original mechanical characteristics with carbon fiber in thermo-plastic matrix
• increased padding, comfort and ergonomics
• over-molded forks created with special effects plastics give better grip and durability
• developed a patented infinite adjustment/sizing mechanism that is intuitive and easy to use
some Voce users are claiming that the stiffness and geometry of the carbon fiber shoulder rest increases the acoustic and resonant qualities of their violins

Responsibilities: Full product development including industrial design, material/process selection and validation, manufacturer sourcing and liaison, multiple prototypes for validation, 3D CAD capture, graphic application.
