Black & Decker 375 Workmate

The Challenge:
To revitalize Black & Decker’s Workmate and position the product to appeal to users desiring a more user-friendly experience, while maintaining the sturdiness & usefulness that is associated with the Workmate brand.

Accomplishments:
• recognized an opportunity to position a
new workmate
• designed steel reinforced plastic jaws that offer added functionality and reduced cost
• introduced wheels for easy transport
• developed an easy, one handed folding and deploying mechanism
• worked with Camalor Manufacturing to reach desired price points
• received a 2003 National Post design award
• worked seamlessly with Camalor Manufacturing to birth product in short timeframe

Responsibilities: Concept identification, mechanical development and prototypes, industrial and plastics design, final 3D CAD capture (all plastic components), and secured IP.
