OXOID Inc. Petri Dish Reader
The Challenge:
This innovative visioning unit scans and records growth characteristics
of samples while in Petrie dishes in a laboratory environment.
DW’s challenge was to review the product's ergonomics
and come up with a housing configuration that was cost effective
in low volumes. The solution had to allow easy access to the
camera compartment for proper cleaning and sterilization.
Accomplishments:
- the configuration of the product was changed
to improve the operator's access
- removable housing allows access to the video scanner
as required
- the housings ensured controlled lighting within the
scan area
- large sloped surfaces allow for thorough disinfecting
- material selection resists typical laboratory cleaning
fluids
Responsibilities:
Ergonomic evaluation,
industrial design, 3D CAD capture of external components,
production thermoform tool build.
