Flex-Fit Helmet


DW was tasked with designing a mass-market bicycle helmet for a start-up sports company, based on their patent for a segmented helmet. The idea of overmolding a fabric armature was developed to connect the five integral helmet sections, acting as hinges between them to create the flex-fit system. The cost was kept low despite the introduction of new parts and technologies, and the helmet was styled to convey safety for easy adoption of an innovative product in a slow-changing market.
